To establish the firmness ratings of our mattresses, we brought together mattress industry veterans, along with rookies, for a blind test for every version of each of our mattresses. While everyone sleeps differently based on their personal preferences and sleep position, the results of these side-by-side comparisons were the consensus of how each mattress feels. The ratings give us a more accurate portrayal of the average experience. They fall across a spectrum, from a rating of 3 to 7.5, on a scale of 1 to 10, with a 10 being the firmest.

For a luxury, plush feel, you can upgrade your Green or Vegan bed with an attached European-style pillow-top, filled with an additional 2-inch layer of GOLS organic certified latex rubber foam — for a total of 5 inches. At 13-inches thick, it’s ideal for all side and combination sleepers, and those in need of more pressure relief or a luxurious feel. The pillowtop version of our Vegan or Green mattress rates Gentle-firm — a 6 out of 10, with 10 being the firmest.

Our standard Green Mattress or Vegan Mattress (without a pillowtop) rates medium-firm, or a 7 out 10, with 10 being the most firm. With a medium, yet firm feel, our standard Avocado Green Mattress sets the standard for affordable eco-luxury. At 11-inches thick, with 3 inches of GOLS organic certified latex rubber foam, it delivers a balanced firmness, comfort, and support. It’s ideal for back and stomach sleepers, and average to large/tall side sleepers. To adjust the feel, you can add a mattress topper at any time.

Our Latex Mattress and Vegan Latex Mattress rate as a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most firm. It’s our firmest mattress. With 9 inches of foam, including our patent-pending Convoluted Latex, our Latex Mattress sets a new standard for non-hybrid mattresses with the perfect, responsive bounce. It's ideal for active couples, back or stomach sleepers, or large/tall sleepers. It provides even distribution of body pressure. You tend to float on top of the latex mattress, rather than sink. Petite side sleepers may prefer our Green or Vegan mattresses.

Our Standard Organic Luxury Mattress rates as a 5 on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the most firm. It has a medium soft feel. Our most luxurious, spectacularly plush, organic certified mattress features 17 premium layers of organic and natural latex, wool, mohair, silk, flax and cotton. The Luxury Plush Mattress is 13.5 inches thick and anything but standard, with up to 1,414 pocketed coils individually pocketed coils arranged in 5 zones for support and motion isolation.

Our Organic Plush Mattress with attached plush pillow-top rates as a 3 on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the most firm. It has a soft feel — our softest mattress. The pillowtop option is 17 inches thick and adds 1,722 low-profile pocketed coils in the topper for the ultimate in body hugging and contouring support. It’s softer than the standard Luxury Plush Mattress, and all but eliminates rolling together (unless you want to) and isolates motion from your partner’s movement. Deep pocket sheets are required, and we offer several lux options.

Our Eco Organic Mattress rates as a 5 on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the most firm. It has a medium-firm feel. Our Eco Organic Mattress is ideal for side sleepers, as well as back sleepers and stomach sleepers. It provides optimized pressure relief and contours to your body’s natural curves. It is slightly less firm than our Avocado Green Mattress.
